Clippers guard Chauncey Billups is helped off the floor Monday after tearing an Achilles tendon.

Clippers guard Chauncey Billups will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his left Achilles tendon during Los Angeles' 107-102 victory over the Magic in Orlando on Monday night.

An MRI exam Tuesday confirmed the injury.

Billups will return to Los Angeles on Thursday for further evaluation. The Clippers say a date for surgery hasn't been determined.

The five-time All-Star, whom the Clippers claimed off waivers in December, was averaging 14.9 points and 4 assists in 30.4 minutes per game this season.

Billups was having a huge night Monday, scoring 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter when he turned to run up the court and buckled to the ground with 5:48 left in the game. He was surrounded by trainers and teammates, but needed assistance on both sides to make it off the court.

Paul Pierce passed Larry Bird for No. 2 on the Celtics' career scoring list, finishing with 15 points as Boston increased its winning streak to five by defeating visiting Charlotte. ... Pierce needed nine points to tie Bird's total of 21,791. He had seven points at halftime, then hit a three-pointer with 10:23 left in the third quarter to pass Bird. Pierce nearly celebrated the milestone with a triple-double, coming up just short with nine assists and eight rebounds. ... Reggie Williams scored 21 for the Bobcats, who lost their 12th straight.

Dwyane Wade scored 26 points and LeBron James added 24 against his former team for host Miami. ... Chris Bosh finished with 15 points for the Heat, who have won 11 of their last 13 games. Mario Chalmers and Udonis Haslem each added 14. ... Miami, which starts a stretch of five road games in seven nights at Orlando on Wednesday, then caps the trip with a visit to Cleveland on Feb. 17.

Steve Nash hit a driving layup with five seconds left to lift visiting Phoenix. ... Marcin Gortat scored 21 points and Jared Dudley added 19 for the Suns, who have won three straight. Nash had 18 points and 11 assists. ... Drew Gooden scored a season-high 25 for the Bucks, who have lost three straight.

Nikola Pekovic had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Michael Beasley added 17 and 14 for host Minnesota, playing its first game without the suspended Kevin Love. ... Ricky Rubio had 14 assists and five steals in the Timberwolves' third straight win.

Danny Granger scored 12 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter, and Darren Collison had 25 points for host Indiana. ... Collison shot 10-for-14 from the floor and added five assists.

Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari is expected to miss a month with a severely sprained left ankle that turned out to be less serious than first feared. ... Tests revealed the chip fracture in his left foot didn't actually occur Monday when he rolled his ankle in a game against Houston. Doctors said it was from a prior injury, perhaps even before he joined the NBA. ... The team said Gallinari will remain in a walking boot for three to five days.

The NBA says a goaltending call in the final seconds of regulation in the Trail Blazers' overtime loss to the Thunder on Monday was incorrect. ... Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge was called for goaltending on Kevin Durant's attempted layup with six seconds left in the game. The call tied the game, which then went into overtime. ... The Thunder went on to win 111-107. ... Aldridge and Blazers coach Nate McMillan said afterward that they did not believe Aldridge touched the ball after it hit the backboard. Replay appeared to support them, but referees cannot use instant replay on goaltending calls.

The NBA has decided to try a new format for its All-Star weekend game featuring the league's top young talent. The Rising Stars Challenge will feature teams composed of both rookies and sophomores. TNT analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal will serve as the general managers and conduct a draft on Feb. 16 to determine each team. ... The Knicks expect Carmelo Anthony to miss a week or two with a strained right groin.
